Granite and Basalt are both formed by volcanic activity and are amongst some of the hardest natural stones available to man. Granite was formed from molten magma deep below the earth's crust which has cooled slowly over many years. Generally speaking the longer the granite takes to cool the larger the crystals. Basalt is a result of molten magma erupting from volcanoes and cooling very quickly, which is why it is sometimes referred to as lava rock. Basalt that is created from under water volcanoes is very fine grained and can contain microscopic holes which are formed when the gas is trying to escape from the rapidly cooling rock.
Stonell stocks a range of both honed and polished granite and basalt sourced from around the world that will create a very contemporary feel to any living space or bathroom.
Please note: Due to the nature of natural basalt and granite
there will be slight variations in colour, shade and texture giving natural character and adding to its charm.
